Vintage Central Scientific Co "Made in France" Compass 3/8" x 2" wide NR

This vintage compass made in France with some type of mount. I was told this was mounted on a rifle but that really doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Measures 2 inches across by 3/8s wide, glass face. not sure on the year, no other markings other than the Made in France
